 COUNTING COUPS

ARTISTS REVISIT THE HOSTILE TAKEOVER OF OUR COUNTRY

IN ANY OTHER COUNTRY, THE APPOINTMENT OF GEORGE W. BUSH WOULD BE CALLED A MILITARY COUP. RUTHLESS TRASHING OF THE RIGHT TO VOTE, SUPREME COURT COLLUSION, SHAMELESS PANDERING BY THE PRESS, AND GLUM RESIGNATION OF THE PEOPLE... IS COUNTERED BY ARTISTS DETERMINED TO RETURN DEMOCRACY TO AMERICA.

countingcoups.org began as an art exhibition at the Theater For The New City in New York...

 WEBMASTER
David Walsh, a board member for the NextMuseum, and MONA (Museum of New Art) has informed
me that they have agreed in principle to hold an exhibition of Counting Coup in Detroit , at the end of the year.
Counting Coup , until this time, has been primarily a small works show. In a museum we would need some
large topical work, to work as contrast with the work we already have. I urge everyone who has an interest
in this show, to inform artists that we are seeking such work, and that there is an opportunity to exhibit
in venue. Work does not have be didactic, but there should be a reference, that can be explained. I will
be the contact person , so any inquiries , should come to me and not the Museum. We have to make
the presentation of the completed exhibition, and work with their curatorial staff. Since this is a museum,
I am hoping that everyone will pull out the stops, and get us some fabulous work, that advances the cause
of democracy,We hope to make a case that art can have a direct effect on the world, with the power of vision,
clarity of purpose, that other media cannot. Lets break the trance state that has taken hold of America, with
art that is shamanic, iconoclastic, revolutionary and beautiful. Frank Shifreen

Art Consortium Gallery in Portand Maine agrees to Count Coup!
Art Consortium Gallery in Portand, ME, has agreed to an exhibition version of Counting Coup/Undo
at a date to be announced in the future, as soon as all arrangements and publicity issues can be arranged.
Consortium is a group of artists and performers in the Portland area who formed the gallery in January.
The director, Pam Stockwell, who had been an artist and Gallery Director in New York, moved to Maine
five years ago. We will try to get the show up in time for the summer season. when there is a tremendouos influx
of tourists, students and summer residents. The gallery , which is just off Congress St., is in
the central shopping and museum area of the city. Ms. Stockwell believes that the educated, youthful population
of the city would be ripe for an exhibition that joins political and avant-garde art. The gallery has about 750 sq.Feet
of viewing space, so the smalls works version of the show would work best .
